Daily Living Skills (Toileting, Eating, Dressing)

Toileting, dressing, eating and bedtime routines can be hard for children with autism. ABA breaks each routine into small steps and teaches them one at a time.

What you might notice

  • Not yet toilet trained when peers are
  • Very limited diet or mealtime refusals
  • Needs full help to get dressed
  • Difficulty with bedtime or morning routines
  • Struggles with hygiene routines such as brushing teeth

Many children show some of these signs without having a condition. A licensed clinician makes any diagnosis; our autism diagnosis & evaluation service is one way to get answers.

Support that meets your child where they are.

How ABA helps

We write a task analysis, a list of the small steps in the routine, teach the steps with prompts and rewards, and then fade prompts so your child does more on their own. Parents learn the same steps to keep home consistent.

Questions parents ask

Can’t find your answer? Talk to our team.

Can ABA help with picky eating?

ABA can support mealtime routines and gradual exposure. For medical feeding concerns, your pediatrician or a feeding specialist should lead, and we coordinate with them.

At what age should toilet training start?

There is no single age. Your BCBA assesses readiness and writes a plan for your child.
