Social Skills Challenges
Some children, including those who speak well, find friendships hard: starting a conversation, sharing, reading cues or handling losing a game. These are teachable skills.
Therapy at our San Jose & Oakland centers
What you might notice
- Plays alone or next to, not with, other children
- Talks mainly about a favorite topic
- Trouble taking turns, sharing or losing
- Misses jokes, sarcasm or body language
- Difficulty joining a group or keeping a friend
Many children show some of these signs without having a condition. A licensed clinician makes any diagnosis; our autism diagnosis & evaluation service is one way to get answers.

How ABA helps
We teach skills one at a time, practice them with a therapist, then with peers in small groups, and coach families on supporting them at home and school.
Questions parents ask
Can’t find your answer? Talk to our team.
Is there a group program?
Yes. Our social skills group therapy brings children together with a therapist to practice with peers.
My child talks well. Can ABA still help?
Yes. ABA goals are individualized, and social, play and flexibility goals are common for children who speak fluently.
